Many medical and scientific instruments were first prototyped
and developed at reasonable cost by machine shops and electronics
labs that worked with inventors to turn a cocktail napkin sketch
into a working prototype. In this tradition, SB Microsystems
helps its clients to develop highly miniaturized medical and
scientific sensors and systems using modern micro-fabrication
technologies such as MEMS.
We are problem solvers, not technologists with a hammer looking
for a nail. Sometimes a customer’s idea is best implemented
in silicon, with a custom MEMS fabrication run through one of
our industrial foundry partners. Sometimes, a solution is found
with commercially-available off the shelf parts and some clever
packaging. In either case, successfully implementing a solution
for a customer requires:
• clear and open communication
• attention to the basic principles
• of good engineering
design, which
• do not change
at the micro-scale
• proficiency with current state-of-the-art
• techniques
and tools
• established and reliable relationships
• with vendors
in key areas such as
• MEMS foundry
fabrication, circuit design,
• and packaging
• extensive hands-on experience with
• full lifecycle
(design, fabrication and test)
• device development
